A Poem of Patience
They say we were free in 1863
But it just don’t feel that way to me
If we can’t sleep or walk the street
Is our emancipation truly complete?
I’ll give it some years, and hold my fears
Keep rallying, and tallying, and wiping my tears
And just like Galveston awaiting on Granger
I’ll hope for a message from a far-off…
